In addition to producing Yaz, Bayer HealthCare also makes Yasmin. The only difference between these birth control pills is that they contain different amounts of ethinyl estradiol. Ocella is the generic form of Yasmin.

Yaz FDA Warnings

In 2008, the FDA required Bayer HealthCare to create new ads for Yaz due to the fact that its ad campaign was overstating Yaz uses, as well as down playing severe Yaz side effects. Interestingly, this incident was not the only run in Bayer HealthCare has had with the FDA. In September 2009, the FDA cited Bayer, claiming that it was distributing possibly poor quality shipments of Yaz. Bayer's response was that it manages quality control of its product by monitoring the "average" quality of a shipment, rather than the specific quality of each case.
