Yaz Uses

Generically referred to as drospirenone, Yaz is a contraceptive tablet that has been FDA-approved for the use of preventing pregnancy, as well as treating moderate acne and PMDD. Yaz is produced by Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals.

Yaz for Endometriosis

Endometriosis is a condition in which the cells that grow within a woman's uterus start to develop on the outside of the uterus and have the potential to spread throughout the pelvic region (i.e. growing on the cervix, bladder, vagina, etc.). To treat this condition, the hormones in a woman's body have to be stabilized. This can be done by having women take a regulated course of hormones, such as those in Yaz (or other oral contraceptives).

Yaz for Perimenopause

Perimenopause refers to the two to eight year period of time in which a woman's body prepares for menopause. During perimenopause, a woman's estrogen levels will fluctuate wildly, and her menstrual cycles may become highly irregular and inconsistent. In most cases, the most effective treatment is the continuous delivery of a regulated amount of hormones. Yaz and other oral contraceptive pills (OCPs) have been proven successful at regularizing menstruation, subduing mood swings, quelling hot flashes and reducing the other symptoms of perimenopause.

Yaz for Acne Treatment

In January 2007, the FDA approved Yaz for use in the treatment of moderate acne in females older than 14. Among its many causes, one cause of acne can be naturally having high levels of a certain hormone that causes the sebaceous glands to secrete excessive amounts of sebum, an oily matter the body secretes to naturally lubricate the skin and hair. Drospirenone (Yaz) can effectively block the sebaceous gland from over reacting, thus treating acne.

Yaz for PMDD

Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) is a severe form of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) that causes women to experience debilitating symptoms such as depression, migraines and insomnia. Clinical studies have proven that Yaz is effective at reducing the symptoms of PMDD by regularly delivering a steady dose of hormones to women.
